Ol' Roy-Dinner-Rounds-Dry-Dog-FoodOl’ Roy is a well-established name in the dog food market. In fact, I am not the first to sit down and write a review on this brand. On the internet, you will find many people providing reviews on their products. This particular Ol’ Roy product falls into dry dog food category.

The Dinner Rounds dog food is full package and fulfills all the nutritional needs of your dog. The best thing that I have found in this dry dog food is that it is soft and very easy to chew.

One of my dogs is missing a tooth and still she is able to enjoy her every meal. This is a characteristic that is very rare in most dry dog foods.

This 15 pound package of Dinner Rounds contains a mix of ingredients that any would love to eat. When I switched to Ol’ Roy I had to start slow, but now both my dogs will not have anything but this. It contains wheat flour, soybean meal, cereal food fine, corn syrup, animal fat (preserved with BHA), meat and bone meal, beef, phosphoric acid, salt, potassium chloride, folic acid and more.

This blend provides a great taste of bone and meat, and that is why my dogs love it some much. These bones provide them with Calcium and the meat with protein.

And of course, the dog food contains vitamins (various supplements of Vitamin E, A, D3, and B12). These vitamins do great in ensuring good eyesight for dogs. Also, Vitamin D3 strengthens bones. B12 and Vitamin E are great for the skin of your pet.

Niacin Supplement, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, and Biotin are the beneficial elements that improves inner organs of your dog.

Some of the minerals include: Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganous Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Calcium Iodate and Sodium Selenite. By including all these things, Ol’ Roy takes care of the agility, bone strength and the immune system of your canine pets.

Inside the box you will find 12 sachets or pouches, each containing enough food for one serving. The dog food has a beef flavor owing to the beef meals used in its manufacture. Dogs easily tend to love this flavor. And so you can switch to this dog food and your dog will not complain.

This beef flavor dog food is primarily prepared for adult dogs. So I would suggest not feed your pups this food. There are other dog foods by Ol’ Roy prepared for puppies. You can try those out.

4. Ol' Roy Puppy Complete

Ol' Roy-Puppy-CompleteIt is quite easy to find a proper dog food for your adult dog. But it is not so when it comes to finding one for your puppy. A pup is delicate, and we need to be very careful in taking its care. Special care is needed in the first one or two years of their lives.

If they get to have a proper diet in their growing stage, they will be able to lead a healthy and active life later on. With the Ol’ Roy Puppy Complete, you will be able to give all the things your pup needs to grow up fit and strong. This dog food is a perfect blend of proteins, carbs, vitamins, minerals and Omega 6 Fatty acids.

5. Ol' Roy Cuts in Gravy Wet Dog Food Variety Pack, 13.2-Ounce (Pack of 12)

Ol' Roy-Cuts-in-Gravy-Wet-Dog-FoodPersonally, I really like this variety from Ol’ Roy. I mean I don’t like eating it, but as a dog food it is better than most other products. Any article with the title “best dog food review” normally contains dog foods with only one kind of flavor.

But this Ol’ Roy product contains three kinds of food in 12 cans (4 cans per flavor). Even the texture of the food is quite different than other dog foods. The food is mainly meat cuts in gravy.

It is a type of dog food that your freind would like. My dog buddies started liking it from the very first serving. And since there are three flavors, they are also able to enjoy variety.

The three flavors include Lamb and Rice, Savory Chicken Dinner and Country Gravy Stew. The foods contain real lamb and chicken cuts. So there remains no question regarding Ol’ Roy’s food quality. It has high customer rating in online shops as well and everyone who fed it to their dogs gave a thumbs up.

I am one of them. This three-flavor dog food is a complete package of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and proteins. It is a balanced diet, so your dog will not become overweight. The food is prepared for dogs of all breeds and dogs of all ages.

I have my own grownup dogs and two of my neighbors have pups with parents, and all of our dogs enjoy this same Ol’ Roy dog food. Given the quantity and quality, this is also a very cost effective product. So altogether, this is probably the best Ol’ Roy dog food I have come across till now.

Things I Liked about This Ol’ Roy Dog Food
  • You buy 4 types of foods with three distinct flavors within one package. Now that’s a deal!
  • You get real lamb and chicken pieces inside this dry dog food diet. Not a shred of artificial flavor.
  • This thing is what “Complete” nutrition looks like for your furry friends out there.
  • Despite having this many ingredients, the diet doesn’t let your canine friends fatten up at all.
  • This looked like a cost effective product when I checked the performance graph of this thing.
Things I Didn’t Like About this Ol’ Roy Dog Food
  • I don’t like the “Rice” that’s added in the mix of things. It is a known “Grain” that causes problems.

Ol’ Roy Dog Food Recall Issues

Ol’ Roy has had some recalls in the distant past. Like the majority of the dog foods, the brand had some issues that have been solved in a decisive manner. Let me go over the three instances where this dry dog diet was withdrawn from the market.

  • Back in March 2007, in the AMVA report quite a number of Ol’ Roy’s recipes were listed. Authorities found Melamine in them. So, they were recalled.
  • In the month of June 2007, Ol’ Roy was subject to yet another recall. This time, Complete Nutrition formula was recalled and replaced due to a Salmonella threat.
  • In September 2008, Complete Nutrition along with High-Performance Nutrition, Meaty Chunks, and Puppy Complete formulas of Ol’ Roy were pulled out of the market. The reason? Possible Salmonella threat.

How to Choose the Ideal Ol’ Roy Dog Food for Your Furry Friends?

Ol’ Roy has something for dogs of every breed and age. But you’ll pay a dear price if you push the “Buy” button too soon. Before you actually do, let me tell you about few things that’ll help you make a better decision regarding which variety you should pick. Call it a “Buying Guide” if you will.

Check the Age of Your Dog

This will help you determine his growth stage. Dogs of different ages require different quantities of food. Minerals and ingredients vary as well.

For example, adult dogs require more fiber to be active through all day. They have toned muscles. Appropriate quantity of fiber gives them agility and allows them to play all day or train.

On the other hand, for puppies, you need protein and calcium. Protein gives them some much needed muscle strength. Calcium enhances the strength of the bones. Plus, they need carb and fat to help burn energy to keep their playfulness intact.

Make sure you select an Ol’ Roy dry dog food according to what your dog needs.

Did You Check The Size of the Canine Beast Yet?

If not, do it now! There’s a simple math at work here. The bigger your dog, the more energy he’ll need. The scenario would be to provide him with high calorie count per cup. In my Ol’ Roy Dog Food Review, I’ve included some “High Protein” diet for dogs of the large breed too.

Bigger dogs have a bigger “Bite” size. Do check the kibble size before you push the buy button. Small kibbles won’t be much of a fun for your big boys.

Similarly, the smaller ones won’t be able to chew on large pieces of kibbles. So, it is important to select the right kibble size for the right dog breed, age, and life stage.

Give Him What Your Dog Needs

When choosing the ultimate pet food from Ol’ Roy, you’ll do well to find out the dietary needs of your pet. Namely, what he lacks and needs from his diet.

Very often our dogs go through health conditions that force them to undergo certain stages of treatment. In other cases, we simply want or friends to maintain certain weight and shape.

In any case, please consult your vet before you put your dog on any kind of diet plan. Your vet will tell you the nutrition level your dog needs for the diet to work.

Based on that, select a product from my Ol’ Roy Dog Food Review!

How to Feed Ol’ Roy to Your Dog?

Now that you know about the Top 5 Dog Foods from Ol’ Roy brand and how to pick the best one from them, let us move on to an intriguing topic. That is, how to actually feed these dog diets to your dog. In this case, I promise not to be too technical.

  • First of all, you should feed your adult dog twice a day. This is not me talking, this is what experts think on your dog’s diet plan and eating habits. They say that you should feed adults two times per day (morning and afternoon) and the puppies three times.
  • You need to get a sense of “Feeding Time” into your puppy’s mind. For that, keep the feeding bowl out in the open for 10 to 20 minutes. After repeated occurrences, your puppy (or adult dogs) will know when to feed.
  • How much food of this brand you should feed your furry pet? Well, it varies with weight. For example, if your dog weighs 5 pounds or less, you should consider giving him ½ to 5/8 cups of food.
  • If you have a dog weighing between 20 to 40 pounds, make sure you feed him 1 ¼ to 1 ¾ cups per day to maintain the health and wellbeing. A 40-pound dog should get a share between 2 ¼ to 3 cups per day.
  • If you have a dog weighing 80 pounds, consider feeding him 3 2/3 to 5 cups a day. Now if you have a dog that weighs 100 pounds or more, 4 ¼ cups to 6 cups are just fine.
  • Please check how much food your dog can chew. Adult dogs can handle large kibbles from Ol’ Roy. If you have puppies, I advise you to go for canned food or try the Puppy Complete Small Kibbles from my Ol’ Roy Dog Food Reviews.

My Last Words

People often stick to either dried dog foods or their wet counterparts (canned dog foods). Why? Because it saves them some bucks. What they don’t realize is, our pets require different types of foods at different stages of their lives. That is why its important to enlist both types on the roster.

Hopefully, my short but important list of Ol’ Roy Dog Food Review will help you finding the best match for your dogs. A diet is not what you change every other day. So, it is best to buy one only after you are familiar of the effects it will have on your dog’s lifestyle. In that regard, the buying guide and feeding schedule are also helpful chunks of information.
